GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB

 

The Educational Interpreter/One-on-One Support performs interpreting and behavior support services in the educational setting and / or school related activities for students who are deaf or hard of hearing. Daily directions are provided by the general education teacher and /or the teacher of the deaf. The employee directs any concerns regarding job function or student performance to the appropriate staff members. The employee reports to the Executive Director of Exceptional Children.

 

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

 

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

 

 

A score of 3.5 on the Educational Interpreter Proficiency Assessment (EIPA) and an AA degree in Educational Interpreting from an accredited program or a related field, and a minimum of three years of experience in an educational setting; or for Cued Language Transliterators, an AA degree in Educational Interpreting or a related field, and a score of level 2 on the Cued Speech Transliterator Training, Evaluation, and Certification Unit (TECUnit). Persons serving as an Educational Interpreter II must annually complete 20 hours of training related to interpreting that has been approved by the local education agency. 

 

A score of 4.0 on the Educational Interpreter Proficiency Assessment (EIPA) and at least an AA degree in Educational Interpreting from an accredited program or a related field, and a minimum of five years of experience in an educational setting or certification from Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf, Inc. (RID), National Association for the Deaf (NAD); for Cued Language Transliterators, score a level 3 on the Cued Speech Transliterator Training, Evaluation, and Certification Unit (TECUnit), and a minimum of five years of experience in an educational setting. Persons serving as an Educational Interpreter III must annually complete 20 hours of training related to interpreting that has been approved by the local education agency. 

 

 

 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT

 

Must complete Non-violent Crisis Intervention Training within 30-days of hire date. Training will be provided by Montgomery County Schools.
